POSITIONS: Full Time and Part Time
HOURS OF WORK: Weekdays, Evenings and Saturdays
DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Medical Director and Clinical Services Director, will be responsible for ultrasound scanning of patients in this state of the art imaging centre. Will be accountable for contributing to the delivery of the highest quality care, in a patient centered environment. Will have the opportunity to continue learning and advancing your skills in a supportive environment. As part of an urgent imaging center you will have the opportunity to image complex and urgent pathology on an ongoing basis.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ABILITIES: (representative but not all inclusive)
- Must be able to work efficiently and independently
- Prepare and explain ultrasound procedures to patients while performing the study
- Perform abdominal, obstetrical/gynecology, pelvic, breast, transvaginal, transrectal, chest, face, neck, brain, small parts, extremity, Doppler, pediatric, or other studies as requested by the referring physicians and as instructed by the physician in charge
- Operate complex ultrasound equipment device after appropriate orientation and select appropriate transducer and frequency
- Efficiently operate ancillary devices such as image acquisition, computers, RIS and PACS to obtain permanent records of information
- Responsible for sending images to PACS, confirming that images are attached to the correct patient exam, and verifying the exam
- Must be able to recognize all structures on the ultrasound monitor, determine the anatomy as normal or abnormal and, if abnormal, be able to delineate the abnormality and extend the scope of the study appropriately
- Assist in the quality assurance program of testing the ultrasound equipment and reporting problems to the Medical Director and the evaluation of new products and equipment
- Will regularly clean probes and exam bed with an approved disinfecting agent to prevent contamination to other patients and staff
- Will maintain room and equipment in a neat and orderly manner by cleaning equipment and storing all necessary equipment/supplies in an appropriate location
- Will ensure work area is properly stocked with necessary supplies
- Remain compliant with continuing education requirements of CMRITO
- Assist in the training of new sonographers, students, and staff, as required
- Be a pleasant and excellent communicator with patients, other staff, referring and reporting physicians
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successful completion of recognized course in diagnostic ultrasound
- Registered CMRITO with Liability Insurance
- Must be competent and efficient in abdominal, obstetrical and transvaginal scanning
- Experience in Doppler and vascular ultrasound an asset
- Experience in MSK ultrasound an asset
- FMF Canada NT certified or willing to acquire certification
- Proven ability to attend work on a regular basis
- Satisfactory criminal reference check
- Demonstrate current malpractice coverage
- Letter of reference from ultrasound employer or instructor/preceptor
- Demonstrated ability with above average written skills, including good grammar, composition and spelling
- Evidence of strong organizational skills with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines is essential
- Must have excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, courteously and tactfully with all types of people
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality
- Current CPR certification
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The applicant must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, which include:
- Required to scan for long periods of time
- Required to sit for long periods of time
- Assist patients on to, and around, exam bed
